(2025)- Candela Renewables, a leading developer of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects in the U.S., has announced a $5,000 donation to the Metcalfe County Educational Foundation (MCEF) to assist in supporting summer camp experiences for Metcalfe County gifted and talented students at Western Kentucky University (WKU), along with other related projects. The donation was presented July 8 at the district office.
The contribution helped ensure that eligible Metcalfe County students could attend WKU’s Summer Camp for Academically Talented Middle School Students (SCATS), a two-week residential camp that offers students a unique learning environment to explore new ideas, develop concepts, make friends and share experiences.
“We thank Candela for this generous donation,” said Dr. Benny Lile, President of the MCEF. “The foundation’s inaugural fundraising effort was to sponsor at least two students for WKU’s gifted and talented summer camps – a first for Metcalfe County. With Candela’s support, we’ve achieved that goal.”
Candela Renewables is currently developing the Summer Shade Solar Project, a utility-scale photovoltaic solar and storage facility in Metcalfe County. The site is located adjacent to the Summer Shade substation along U.S. 90, where the electricity generated will be distributed to homes and businesses on the local power grid.
